ARTBOXMagazine: Detroit’s abandoned houses.
Why do people have to come into Detroit and take these pictures? Why not get to know the city instead of shoehorning us into some dystopian fantasy?
Bolded emphasis mine. Detroit is way more than decay porn, people.
The part that upsets me most about pictures like these is that people don’t come and take them so that they can show people how much we need help. They take them to show that Detroit is a barren, unpopulated wasteland to be bulldozed to the ground. Have you ever seen a single Detroiter’s face in a picture of Detroit’s decay?
I think these are beautiful yet sad shots. To me, they don’t represent a city that needs to be buldozed to the ground, but a city screaming for help, for its beauty to be restored. Not buldozed to the ground and replaced with new, lifeless houses or buildings, but to restore the beauty of those houses that are still there. I think the old, vintage, antique should be perserved and cared for while along side things evolve. Evolution does not mean we should forget the past. :)

A wet-eyed wanton cobbled from treasures of the earth and stars. I was a warrior. Luisa is my name.
